Basketball, Box 38, Jan 1948

Before we look at images, today’s post is on June 6, 2022, and that would have been my 101st birthday !

Although I’m in reality stuck at 100, I’m having a lot of fun reliving taking all those images you’re all looking at. My goodness ! Happy Birthday to me !

Today we’re going through the 38th box of Press Negatives. This one has “Basketball, St-Mary’s, Jan 29, 1948” penciled on the corner.

Turns out there are images of two different basketball matches. St-Mary’s and Pacific in 1948, the second match is Pacific-Menlo Park in 1949. Not sure if any of these images were published, some of them were printed though.

Next 3 images are from a 1949 match, Pacific – Menlo park. Clearly misplaced in the box, we may find more of them later.

Joel definitely got his fair share of good action shots here. But workflow error is always possible, especially in fast flowing games. See below, what would have been two nice shots on a single negative double take. Enjoy seeing double !

Next blog post we’ll take a look at the rest of the box. More artwork, the majority being nice 3D pieces.

There was only one flat art piece in this box, so I’m showing it here. It’s unfortunately unsigned, but it has promise. (It reminded my of George Akimoto SJC Curtiss Aviation artwork pre 1942.)

See you next time, cheers !
