While Joel was at SJC and COP, he submitted with great regularity images for the Pacific Weekly and the COP yearbook, Naranjado. Quite a few of his images were published from 1942 through 1948. Some years with credit but quite a few times there were no credits for the photographers that were not part of the official Naranjado press team.
It was a bit of a surprise though to see that Joel had 13 images published in the 1959 College of Pacific yearbook, 11 years after graduating.
Joel’s 1958-1959 images pretty much dominate the football and basketball section of this particular yearbook. One of the images is a double spread on pages 196-197 and Joel was very proud of this.
I did find the negative in box #105 from the Pacific Pepperdine match on Feb 4, 1959.
Seven more images from the same vantage point were also found in the 23 Press negative collection of box 105.
The rest of the images are from various basketball plays, and I’ll share these next blog post.
Before closing this post, the only non-sports image from Joel in Naranjado 1959 is on page 41. Governor Goodwin J Knight crowns the Homecoming Queen Rosemary Clampitt as President R. Burke looks on. Dated October 18, 1958. Unfortunately, I didn’t find this negative (yet).
