Next 4×5″ negative sleeve in the Jessica Fong Collection of Dardis negatives has 7 negatives of the Pacific Tigers versus Fresno State Bulldogs, on September 28, 1957.
Joel is back in the bleachers, playing with his telephoto lenses and exploring the possibilities.
The first and last image are shots that Joel couldn’t have taken from the sidelines. It does appear though that in this match, Joel moved location from time to time. There is simply insufficient consistency in the angles to be photographed from a single location.
Even the action shots give a different perspective, and in good photography, one would need to do both for complete coverage. Teamwork required.
On a side note. When I went looking for supporting information in the Holt-Atherton Digital Library, I found a Pacific Review of December 1957 that had 4 images published from Joel Dardis he had taken prior that year.
