This is one of the heavy negative boxes. Twenty nine negatives crammed in the package.
The main subject is a variety of sports at College of Pacific in 1948. I was able to verify that some of these images were represented in a cropped form in Naranjado 1948. It is always good to find confirmation.
Let’s start with the images of the swim meet activities.

Don Driggs and Ken Mork

The above sequence suggests getting-ready-action, possibly staged prior to the real thing.
There’s no staging in the two images that follow.

Two after-the-race images.

Phil Morgan

LtR, Bill McMillan, Stan Wright and Phil Morgan
This box contained two negatives from a boxing match, most likely misplaced negatives, Joel covered a boxing match in 1948, we looked at this in a prior blog post. The boxers in the negative below are also fighting in the prior blog post.

Images from various track disciplines are the next subject.

The jumping images are actually quite fun. Just look at the different styles and how well the motion is frozen. The camera Joel is using by now had 1/500th and 1/1000th of a second shutter speeds to freeze motion. Because of the camera construction, a Graflex Super D SLR lends itself to being held low to the ground without the photographer assuming a prone position. It’s clear in the above images that this works out well for Joel.

The bar is moving …. great capture.
And the first time ever in over 80 blog posts, Joel has some baseball images !

This is it for the sports negatives in Box 45. Next post we’ll look at more COP end-of-year activities, some of these images are equally found in Naranjada 1948.
Cheers !
