Other than “Electric Plane Mill, 1948” (sic), there’s nothing more on the lid of the box.
The Electric Planing Mill was situated on 545 S Monroe Street in the Stockton City Directory of 1943. This Mill is no longer mentioned in the 1949 Stockton City Director for obvious reasons.
All negatives in this box related to the fire, appear to be post extinguishing the blaze, when the flames are no longer a major threat.
As usual, negatives are shown in order scanned.

In the above image, on the light colored building at right, one can read “Jobbers Wood Product, Co.”. This building was located at 348 W Hazelton, Stockton. I couldn’t find this business in the Stockton City Directory, but “Jobbers Wood Product Co.: was mentioned in a few old wood industry books in the 1950’s. Always check Google Books when finding nothing in the typical online references when it comes to vintage events.

It doesn’t appear the firefighter at left has much PPE in the above image. There’s still plenty that can come down …

A total of 2 images, with firefighter activity, were copied or printed.
We’ll look at the other industrial images, of a different nature, in the next blogpost.
Cheers !
One response to “Electric Planing Mill Fire, Box 83, 1948”
My Uncle Jim McIntosh owned the mill. I would love to have copies . It is rumored that his wife set the fire. The mill was rebuilt but closed in early ‘70’s.
