Iris Mae Spoonemore, Box 79, 1949

It was hard to read the contents on this box with a total of 46 images, a new record !

Iris Spenemere is all that I could read. A quick search on the UOP digital library showed only one Iris in 1949, and some further genealogical research came up with the full name. Iris Mae (May) Spoonemore. She graduates in January 1949 with an AB Modern languages. Iris marries Alfred Charles Peterson, December 17, 1950. I know they had children, so these images could be important to them.

There are of course other subjects in this box, as usual, but it appears Joel worked on two different occasions with Iris.

The first “test” photo shoot is all natural light and Iris is wearing minimal makeup.

It’s clear that this is a first test and Iris is not yet comfortable in her role. It’s also an experiment for Joel as he is shooting “soft”, in search of that Hollywood glamour look.

In the meantime, Joel got sidetracked and photographed some clouds. It’s something photographers can’t resist.

And few out-of-series images for this blog post:

The first image of the All-College Honor Society, Local Scholastic, was published in the 1949 College of Pacific Naranjado yearbook. One of the many images Joel had published that year.

Few sport’s images crept in also in this line-up of negatives.

Last two images were the first ones Joel photographs and shows of the gym team.

There are 33 more images to show out of this box.

Cheers !
