Although there’s a date of April 15, 1948 pencilled on the box, we can’t be sure that this is the exact date of Mardi Gras in this case for 1948, as this event typically happens sometime in May.
Nevertheless, some of the images matchup subject wise with the Mardi Gras images in Naranjado 1948 and I didn’t find any Pacific Weekly 1948 publications with an exact date for the event.
See below for images io the float parade in Downtown Stockton. The dance event was most likely at the Civic Memorial Center.

The 7 remaining negatives of the 19 images are all sports related. There are unfortunately no names on the box.
Six tennis match images.

It’s pretty obvious these images were taken during a match, there’s no controlled movement posing here as in the portfolio shoot with Mary Ann Ferguson. These images are a good addition to the portfolio. All of the above tennis images were printed.
Last image for closing is of hurdles. It’s not the most gracious shot, but it is intense and Joel printed this.

That’s it for this blog post installment. We’re mid April 1948 and Joel is still photographing events at COP, well after his graduation.
Cheers !
