Although we’ve now seen all 4×5″ negatives out of Jessica’s Collection, there are still a few strips of 120 format (2 1/4″ wide roll film) negatives left to scan and look at.
The first envelope I scanned contained 4 images of Vernal Falls in Yosemite. These 4 images are all taken consecutively. There was no information on date or year. This may come later when we find more similar Yosemite images in a different collection.
Regardless, there was a lot of water flowing when Joel photographed these falls. We know Joel’s would pretty much do a yearly pilgrimage for his birthday to Yosemite starting 1961. So, these images are 1961 or later.
Vernal Fall is a 317-foot waterfall on the Merced River just downstream of Nevada Fall in Yosemite National Park, California.
Like its upstream neighbor, Vernal Fall is clearly visible at a distance, from Glacier Point, as well as close up, along the Mist Trail.
In the prints below, one can see the trail with hikers at the right hand side, middle of the image. The rock sticking out in these images is Half Dome.

That’s it for this blog post, till we find more images of this series
Cheers !
