Yosemite, JFC, 1965

This 4×5″ negative sleeve has “Yosemite, June 1965” in pencil writing.

The majority of these images are of sequoia, and I believe these are in the Mariposa Grove at the South Entrance. This would have made most sense in light of the trip from Stockton at the time, and the observation Joel left us with an infrared film image of Tunnel View.

It appears to be a family outing. June 1965, Joel turns 44, and based on the timing of the other Yosemite images we’ve seen so far, he seems to treat himself to a Yosemite visit for his birthday starting 1961.

Quite a few images are on infrared film, something Joel seems to do often between 1961 and 1966.

The last image is unmistakably “Yosemite”. It’s on infrared film, so the skies are rendered dark and anything green foliage is rendered light to almost white. The spray from Bridal Veil cools the rocks down around the fall and that is also picked up in the image.

All the above image are part of the Jessica Fong Collection of Dardis negatives.
