The next box I scanned had more circus subject and a few slides from a beach, Either Carmel or Santa Cruz, I still have to look for location clues.
The circus slides below are all from the Clyde Beatty circus, photographed in first half May 1947 in Stockton.

And in 1947, society looked differently at cultural (mis)appropriation.

Elephants are not just an attraction, they help with moving trailers.

The king of the jungle. Clyde Beatty started out as an animal trainer prior to getting into the circus business in 1946, but one cannot stop wondering about the small cages.

There was an unframed bonus slide at the bottom of the box. This was the last slide (27) of the roll, and somehow cut too small to fit the cardboard frame.

This is the house, at 524 W Walnut, Stockton, that Joel Dardis lived in from the time after his father passed away (1933) till 2021. Some 87-88 years. What a history ! Or this may equally indicate that Joel was not adventurous or didn’t like change too much. Clara Pahl passed away in this house in 1966, so Joel lived there alone for over 50 years !
The house still looks the same from the outside, there’s even a similar trellis at the right side of the house. It was pretty much a time capsule at the time of the estate sale in March 2022.
Few more blog post with color slides from the same time period coming up.
Cheers !
